1979 to 1988: (RJA) Saatchi & Saatchi
In 1979, after graduating in Management from the Eindhoven Institute of Technology and Management,
I started as an Account Executive at advertising agency RJA. My account was Dutch national bank Rabobank. In the mid eighties this agency merged with Saatchi & Saatchi, where I was appointed Director in 1987. In addition to various management tasks, such as responsibility for the account unit, I was responsible for the following clients, among others: Côte d’Or, Knorr, Schweppes, Isostar, Seiko and Procter & Gamble (part account).
1989 to 2002: (Benjamens, Van Doorn & Partners) Euro RSCG
In early 1989 I was asked to become a partner in communications agency Benjamens, Van Doorn & Partners. This agency merged with Euro RSCG in 1993. Until the end of 1997 I was responsible for the Accounts Department as well as a significant number of clients, including FBTO, Pearle, Peugeot, Intel, Johma, Wasa, Leerdammer, Burger King en Elmex. In addition, I contributed to the Microsoft and Philips accounts.
In 1998 and 1999 I was Joint Managing Director at Benjamens, Van Doorn - Euro RSCG and from 2000 to 2002 I was Business Development Director at Euro RSCG Groep Nederland. I am very proud of the Effie Awards won by Benjamens, Van Doorn - Euro RSCG and of the fact that up to 2001 the Euro RCSG Groep showed continued growth in the Netherlands.
For over ten years I was a guest lecturer in Marketing and Communication at Tilburg University (Faculty of Economic Sciences, Department of Marketing). From 2002 to 2004 I was furthermore a freelance Academic Coach at Tilburg University.
2003 to date: MVCM
In 2003 I started my own consultancy, called MVCM.
Apart from my professional career, I have been a member of the Supervisory Board of the Dutch Kidney Foundation since the beginning of 2010. I gladly contribute to the realisation of the mission of the Kidney Foundation: “a future with a minimal amount of kidney disease, and a better future for kidney patients”. I am mainly involved in issues concerning brand, marketing and communication.
I am also a guest lecturer at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Department of Marketing).
Dr. L.J. (Leo) Paas (Associate Professor, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam):
“I first met Maarten Verhoeven in Tilburg where he was a fellow teacher in Marketing Communication. Maarten has an inspiring way of giving lectures; it is a pleasure to work with him, and he knows how to link academic subject matter to practical situations. This ‘linking skill’ results in refreshing views with respect to tough academic subject matter. As I had enjoyed working with him in Tilburg, I asked him to be a guest lecturer at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, where Maarten gave an outstanding lecture, filled with passion. I know no other guest lecturer who has invested so much time in a guest lecture. My impression is: when Maarten does something, he always gives it his very best effort, for the full 100%!”
